Hachune Miku?!

This weekend we've been to the UK Games Expo 2015 - a big three day event that covers all types of tabletop gaming! We picked up some awesome kawaii gaming things that I'll post about once we've had a chance to play ^^  But one thing I picked up at the Expo was a Hachune Miku plush...

Yes, you read that right Hachune Miku!!

Hachune Miku is an officially recognised 'derivative' of Hatsune Miku! She was first made for a video to accompany a Hatsune Miku cover of a song from Finland and became so popular she was eventually officially recognised by Miku's creators, Crypton Future Media!  She has appeared on merchandise such as plushes like the one I got at Expo and even as a Nendoroid figure!  She has also been featured in some versions of the Project Diva game franchise! That's awesome for what was originally a fan creation!!

Hachune Miku is identifiable by her blank eyes, open mouth and swirly pink cheek marks.  She is also famous for often carrying a negi (a Japanese type of onion, like a leek) ^^

Here's a version of the song that made Hachune Miku famous, 'Ievan Polkka':

Isn't she super Kawaii?! Catch you later Kawaiisters!! ^^

DIKawaii - Pom Poms! ^^

I'm doing really well at keeping my New Years resolution of having a hobby day a week and it has really encouraged me to try new hobbies, like crafting! With wanting to make our home more super Kawaii, crafting seems the perfect way to make Kawaii items to our tastes. One crafty activity I have just started is pompom making! Pompoms are super cute and can be made into all shapes and sizes, using all sorts of colours!

I remember making pompoms when I was younger using cut out card board, but have now come across these awesome little tools! Pompom makers!

These are Clover Pom Pom makers and they come in several sizes. The large pack makes pom poms in 65 mm and 85 mm, and the smaller pack makes pom poms in 35mm and 45mm.

They are super easy to use and are quite cheap to buy. I bought these from Hobby Craft and they were £6.50 for the large pack and £5.90 for the smaller pack!

I also got these balls of wool to use from Hobby Craft.

The pom pom makers come with instructions on the back, which are super easy to follow:

Although there are loads of videos on Youtube showing you how to use them step by step. Here is a super quick and easy tutorial I found that shows you how you make a fluffy Kawaii pom pom in less than 5 minutes!

I have tried each pom pom maker and made a sample to show you how easy and kawaii they are:

These took me just a few minutes each! I'm planning to use pom poms to make some super kawaii items for around our home and maybe even in some outfits. To get inspiration I have pinned a few ideas on my new Pom Pom Ideas board on Pinterest!

How about pom pom Christmas decorations? Or pom pom chandelier?

Or pom pom slides, hair bands and necklaces?! Theres so many ways to use pom poms to Kawaii up your home or outfits!!

If you want to see what else I have pinned as ideas then check out my Pinterest. I really recommend these little pom pom gems if you are looking to start some pom pom making! I'm off to make some more!!

Mr Takeover - Candy Backpack by Spiral

Hello Kawaiisters!! Mr here with another takeover!

As you might remember, Pinkuiro Pixie is trying to decide which of her backpacks - Little Twin Stars or Tokidoki - to take with us when we return to Japan.  Well, I can't let the side down when Life in the Kawaii Lane hits up Tokyo later this year, so I started checking out some of my favourite sites for a new backpack for me!

I was checking out rollersnakes (an independent skate shop here in the UK) when I spotted this really cool backpack from the brand Spiral:

It features a colourful all-over print of different types of candy! (and you know how much I love candy!!)  Here's a view of one of the sides to show off more of the design:

The straps are padded so it'll be nice and comfortable to wear while we pound those pavements!!
Here's the back view:

A cool little feature is this headphone hole, so you can keep your iPod or whatever in your bag and still listen to your tunes on the go!

The pouch on the front is a good size, able to fit all the essential stuff so you can find what you want easily!

And yes, the print is there on the inside of the pouch too! ^^

I really like this bag, and being so colourful it'll go with all sorts of outfits - so it's great for a holiday where you don't want to take three different coloured backpacks with you just to match clothes!

It's really good quality too, like most skate goods, it is built to survive falls and scrapes!

Hope you like my new backpack! ^^

Kawaii Special - One Piece!!

One of the biggest manga/anime phenomenon of recent years is One Piece! The series follows a band of pirates, known as the Mugiwara Pirates or Straw Hat Pirates, on their crazy adventures.  The Mugiwara Pirates are made up of the captain Monkey D. Luffy who has special powers from eating a magical fruit, Roronoa Zoro the swordsman, Nami the navigator, Usopp the sharpshooter, Sanji the chef, Tony Tony Chopper the doctor, Nico Robin the archaeologist, Franky the shipwright and Brook the musician.

The manga started in 1997 and so far has 77 volumes! We have quite a few and they look super colourful on our bookshelf!  Here's some of our collection:

Of course, it didn't take long for an anime adaptation to be made; this started in 1999.  They've not aired this on the TV here in the UK ><; but you can get it on DVD! We've only got the first volume so far, and it came with a cool slipcase featuring the iconic main hero, Monkey D. Luffy!

It's a really funny (and sometimes emotional) story with action and lots of crazy, cool and Kawaii characters, so I recommend you check it out! ^^

Of course, with it being so popular, there's lots of merchandise available, which is great if, like us, you are a fan of Luffy and his nakama!

As Mr is such a big fan, I've bought him a few things for special occasions like Christmas.  To help decora up Mr's always-present backpack, I got him some keychains featuring some of the iconic pirate ships (and marines - the navy/police who are some of the bad guys!).  Mr especially likes the Going Merry (the ship on the far left) ^^

The ships are so detailed and are really cute!

I also got him a set of these Mugiwara Pirate charms:

From left to right these are: Roronoa Zoro, Tony Tony Chopper, Monkey D. Luffy, Nami, Sanji and the Thousand Sunny.  But there's a special feature about these charms... they light up!!

Each of the charms has a little button hidden on the chest/barrel (or underneath in the case of the Thousand Sunny) which you use to light up part of the charm! ^^

One Piece is so popular it is also used in collaborations with various brands, including the Tokyo Skytree!  Here's a special One Piece x Skytree charm we picked up from a gachapon on the way from Asakusa station to the Skytree:

There have been a lot of different One Piece gachapon available.  Here's some of our collection:

It's a chibi Sanji the chef, doing one of his special attacks!

These two charms are part of a food/bento related collection! The sausage is styled to look like Luffy and the soy sauce bottle is the Shark Submerge III (one of the Mugiwaras' vehicles).

Here's Luffy and Chopper ready to go trick or treating! These Halloween charms are super Kawaii!!

Of course, UFO Catchers have had all sorts of One Piece items (figures, towels, all sorts!) - when we first visited Japan Mr wasn't very good at UFO Catchers, but he persevered to win this messenger bag in Akiba!

When we returned to Japan Mr was a bit better at winning items and got us this large tote bag featuring the Kawaii Chopper from a UFO Catcher in Shinjuku:

The bag is a really good size for taking shopping or to cons! It's really well made and the print is super Kawaii!

There's lots more One Piece merchandise out there - and lots of it is Kawaii, so check it out!

Catch you later Kawaiisters!! ^^

Kawaii Shopping on the High Street! ^^

I'm sorry for being a little quiet the last few weeks. Between work, home and coming down with colds I haven't had the chance or inspiration to blog. But as I'm finally beating the current cold I promise normal service will resume!

So, last week was payday which means pocket money! We are being quite restrictive in our spending at the moment due to saving spending money for Japan so I'm being a lot more picky as to what I use my pocket money on! As we do at the start of every month, we went to Birmingham City Centre to see what delights were on offer and I have to admit I was completely surprised by what I found! ^^

We haven't gone for a smooch round Primark in years as its normally far too busy for us, but we popped in last weekend and I found some of the most Kawaii clothing I have seen on the High Street for quite a while.

Just inside the door they had a large selection of Kawaii tops, both normal and crop, covered in super cute prints. There were PowerPuff Girls, Marvel, Disney, Simpsons and Adventure Time to name a few! After a good look round, here are the two tops I bought.

When I spotted this all over Minnie Mouse print I just had to grab it! If you're a regular reader you will know how much of a Minnie fan I am! This is a super cute light cotton top, with cap sleeves! This is coming with me to Japan! When we go it should still be quite nice and warm and this top will look super cute on the Takeshita Dori! And a bargain at £6!!

Amongst the all over prints was this Kawaii ice cream print top for only £3! In a lovely light turquoise (which I love!) this top has a selection of yummy pink ice creams all over it!  This again will look super cute in Harajuku with a few dessert accessories! Super Kawaiiiiiii!! ^^

Next I strolled over to the sleep wear department, I mean, who doesn't love super Kawaii PJ's!! And look what I found.....PANDAAAAAAAAs!!

This super cute jumper was the first thing I spotted!

With a cute girl panda face on the front (including bow!), this jumper is completely wasted as a bed top, so I fully intend to take this with me to Tokyo as well! This will look super cute on an evening roam around Shinjuku when we nip out to hit the arcades! I can wear this without an undertop and it will save me having to carry a jacket with me on the cooler nights!

There were several pieces in this range that you could mix and match for an outfit, and I chose these:

I love the colour of these PJ bottoms! And with an all over print of the girly panda from the jumper, it's just super Kawaii!!! Now I love PJ bottoms but can say, based on what I have seen on the Harajuku Walks each month, you could actually get away with wearing these in Harajuku as well!! With some carefully picked accessories and top, this could be the start of a super Kawaii Decora outfit! ^^ maybe I'll have a play with these before I decide on whether to take these as well!

The last item I bought was spotted by Mr (he's awesome at spotting items for me!):

Yes, it's turquoise again! I told you I love this colour! ^^ I love hoodies and Mr spotted this in the men's department! This is a lovely thick hoodie which will also be coming with me to Japan! It'll go with most of my outfits and will keep me warm on cooler evenings, and only £8!

So that was my lot from Primark. Like I said, it's not somewhere we normally shop, but I'm chuffed to bits with what I got! They were the right price for the quality and as I normally leave some clothes in Japan to make room for what I bring back, these will be perfect to take with me!

The last item I bought on our mini shopping trip were........trainers!! I LOVE TRAINERS! Especially skater trainers! And these are the ones I found in TKMaxx:

They are white DVS skater trainers with blue, green, red and yellow stitching detailed on the side and back. Even the bottom of the trainers has blue, green, red and yellow specks all over! These are perfect for a Decora look as they will go with so many of my clothes and accessories! They came with two sets of laces, white and pink, but I could buy some other colours and switch them out depending on my outfit! This is why I love trainers like these! And they were only £20!!!!

So that was my shopping trip! Quite successful I think! Goes to show, you don't need to spend a lot to show your Kawaii on the outside!!

Catch you later Kawaiisters!! ^^
